Creating A Responsibility Based Culture
The key to addressing all these challenges is Creating A Responsibility-Based
CultureSM, a process that helps senior managers create a culture focused on trust and personal responsibility.
This isn’t a “training program,” but a long-term process that has three distinguishing characteristics:
• It increases the organization’s productivity and profitability;
• It directly relates to what your organization does;
• And it measures results throughout the project.
The foundation of a Responsibility-Based Culture is trust, because only when employees trust management and each other will they be more likely to assume personal responsibility for getting the job done.
In authority-based cultures, everyone’s into the blame game—it’s not my fault, the other guy screwed up, management didn’t listen, and on and on.
Not so in a Responsibility-Based Culture, where there is trust throughout the organization. Studies have shown that organizations whose employees have a high degree of trust in management show better financial results in profitability.
And, building trust is a leadership skill that must be learned.
The only way to achieve significant improvements in profitability and productivity is to change the culture. We’re talking about changing the way people feel, think, and act. It has to start with top management.
Before your organization can change its culture, senior management must decide to embark on this journey.
